Patrick Langot stands out as a free spirit among the cellists of his generation. For twenty years he has pursued a dual career on baroque and modern cello. He performs frequently in recital (Festival International de Beauvais, Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Le Quartz de Brest, Salle Cortot in Paris, Abbaye de Royaumont…) and as a soloist (premieres by Gabriel Sivak and Gerardo di Giusto, Piazzolla’s Grand Tango, concertos by Haydn, C.P.E. Bach, Vivaldi and Porpora…)

His extensive discography of more than thirty recordings ranges from the Baroque to the twenty-first century. Recorded on three different cellos, his first solo album, Præludio, was praised by critics. His latest album, Alas — with the violinist Alexis Cardenas and the Orchestre de Lutetia conducted by Alejandro Sandler — was released in early 2024 on Évidence Classics, showcasing two new works by Gabriel Sivak and Gerardo di Giusto for soloist(s) and orchestra.

In 1999, with the pianist Romain David, he founded the Syntonia Quintet.

A committed champion of the music of living composers — whether solo or with Syntonia — he has worked with Édith Canat de Chizy and Henri Dutilleux, premiered works by Suzanne Giraud, Nicolas Bacri, Pierre Chépélov, Olivier Greif, Alejandro Iglesias Rossi and Olivier Calmel, and commissioned works from Régis Campo, Gerardo di Giusto, Benoît Menut, Tôn-Thât Tiêt, Graciane Finzi and Gabriel Sivak.

He is, and has been, principal cello of many period-instrument ensembles: Les Musiciens du Louvre (Marc Minkowski), Orfeo 55 (Nathalie Stutzmann), Il Caravaggio (Camille Delaforge), Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien (François Lazarevitch)… He is also one of the few cellists to perform Schubert’s Arpeggione Sonata on the eponymous instrument.

Since 2023 he has been co-artistic director of the Festival Autrement Classique in Briare.

A graduate of the Paris CNSM (First Prizes in cello and in chamber music) and of the Paris CRR (First Prize in early music), he is a laureate of the Fondation de France and the Fondation Royaumont, and is in residence at the Fondation Singer-Polignac with numerous ensembles.
